Silver Hallmark
A hallmark is applied to precious metal jewelry as a guarantee of purity. The UK is the only country in the world to perform this task. Prior to receiving this prestigious mark, each piece of precious metal must be tested in one of the four Assay Offices in the UK. Our sterling silver pieces are sent to a facility in Birmingham, where at least 925 parts per 1000 must be of pure silver (requirements vary for different precious metals). If the article is deemed pure, a hallmark including the makers mark, the town mark, and the standard mark is applied to the piece. On each piece of GriffUSA silver jewelry, you will find the artists initials, AG, an anchor to represent the town of Birmingham, and a lion passant as the standard mark for sterling silver. |
